  1. We were picked up by a guy in taxi (who spoke broken english.) who took us first to the bahia palace . Spent an hour there . Very little information was imparted. Back to the taxi (nonaircondtioned in 42 degrees heat) . Next stop Yves st Laurent gardens where we were told to walk around by ourselves. . Spent 30 minutes there. Next stop the medina where we ambled around the various areas (we had done this ourselves the previous day .) Then we were “lead “into various shops where the guide drank tea and we were given the hard carpet sell. Incidentally I have an interest in carpets and the rubbish that these guys were hawking for large sums of money was beneath contempt. This was a complete waste of half a day .

  2. Booked a full day trip with Medina Guided Tours (booked with Mohammed Benanni) to Essaouira. The guide, Saad, was friendly enough, but his English is very limited, which makes it difficult to communicate! Due to this we didn’t get a lot of information about the place. He took us to random places along the way, the usual tour guide kind of way – to get commission. We stopped at a women’s cooperative selling argan products, and a road side spot to take pictures of goats on argan tree. He insisted that the goats went up the tree on their own to eat argan fruits. The goats were just standing there doing nothing, and only one tree has goats on it! It felt fake, it’s definitely a fake.. It’s sad that he insisted that it’s not. It would have been alright if he said that deep in the mountain goats actually climb argan trees to eat, but the roadside one is a setup to show tourists. We had 2 hours to wander around Essaouira’s port and souks – this part of the trip was great. The highlight was the DH7 freshly squeezed orange juice! So good. Had good lunch by the beach too, not far from the souks. Had vegetable tagine, fried sole and calamari.
